So, you’re having trouble paying by card either on this website or on Membermojo.

Payment by card is preferred over bank transfer. Other payment types are more work for the club. Cash is not accepted. One of the tips below normally fixes payment problems.

The club is run entirely by volunteers, and card payments require the least administration, so please persevere in getting your card working. Thank you.

Quick checks

  • Double‑check all card details: card number, expiry date, CVV, and billing address (including postcode) are entered exactly as they appear with your bank.
  • Make sure the name on the card matches the name entered at checkout.
  • Confirm there are enough funds or available credit on the card.
  • Try the payment again, making sure there are no typos and the card hasn’t timed out on the page.

Card and bank issues

  • Check that the card is enabled for online and international purchases (some banks block these by default or after a security review).
  • Look out for any SMS, app notification, or email from your bank asking you to confirm the transaction.
  • If your bank app shows a declined transaction, use the “approve/unblock” option if available, then try again.
  • If it keeps failing, call the number on the back of your card and ask if they’re blocking payments via PayPal or to the UK.

PayPal‑specific tips

PayPal is used as our card processor. You do not need a PayPal account to pay by credit or debit card. However, if you do have a PayPal account:

  • Make sure your PayPal account is verified and in good standing (no limits or unresolved issues).
  • Check which card is linked to your PayPal account and that it hasn’t expired or been replaced.
  • If you see a generic “payment could not be completed” message, log in to PayPal directly and see if there are any alerts or declined attempts to review.
  • Try paying as a “guest” with a card (if offered on the checkout) or, conversely, try logging in to your PayPal account instead of guest checkout.
  • Check if you’ve exceeded your card limit with the PayPal system.
  • Check with PayPal why the payment is being declined. Your email address is raising a red flag in PayPal’s system.

Security and 3‑D Secure

  • Complete any Strong Customer Authentication (3‑D Secure) steps: don’t close the bank popup, browser tab, or banking app mid‑verification.
  • If the 3‑D Secure window doesn’t load or looks blank, try: a different browser, disabling any ad‑blocker, or using a private/incognito window.
  • Ensure you have mobile signal or data if your bank sends one‑time passwords or push notifications to your phone.

Device, browser and network

  • Refresh the page and try again, or try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari).
  • Turn off VPNs, proxies, and aggressive ad‑blockers that may interfere with the payment form or security checks.
  • Try a different device (phone vs laptop) or a different network (mobile data instead of office/corporate Wi‑Fi).
  • Try clearing your browser cache and cookies (www.refreshyourcache.com)

When to try something else

  • Try a different card (another debit/credit card from the same or different bank).
  • Use an alternative payment method offered at checkout (for example, logging into PayPal, bank transfer, or another wallet).
