The Active Kingston Team secures £1,100 from PlaySport London for Kingston Fencing Club with the assistance of their committed club secretary Joseph Shackell. The aim of the programme is to promote greater participation in sport for Londoners which encourages people to take up new sports.
Kingston Fencing Club, founded in 1970, is a friendly community based club that is looking to open its doors FREE of charge to complete beginners wanting to try this London 2012 sport. The club was successful in their joint bid with the Royal Borough of Kingston's Active Kingston Team to secure funding from PlaySport London with the outlook to increase the number of members at the club giving them a much needed boost in economical times that are seeing more and more people cutting the amount they spend on leisure.
Fencing is a great sport that mixes tactical thinking and intelligence and is quoted as being ‘mobile chess’ and having ‘ballet’ like movements. It is a fantastic way to gradually build up fitness and improve health and well-being.
